In 2024, two completely unrelated clients of PUYIZHICHAN found themselves facing an exceedingly rare situation: their trademark applications were assigned the exact same filing date as competing applications for similar marks covering related goods. Under China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) rules, when such same-day conflicts occur and no prior use can be established, the only way forward is a formal drawing — effectively a lottery that determines which party gets to proceed.
Fast forward to today, and we’re proud to report that both of our clients won their respective drawings — on the very same day.
This double win underscores what we at PUYIZHICHAN do best: deep command of trademark regulations and meticulous, end-to-end process management. We will now continue to monitor the next examination stages to safeguard our clients’ IP every step of the way.
Let’s be clear — this result wasn’t a stroke of luck. It was the direct payoff of professional diligence:
We thoroughly mastered the lottery rules in advance and mapped out every requirement.
We registered each client on CNIPA’s online drawing system well before the deadline — no missed steps.
We tracked every deadline and ensured full, on-time participation.
All post-drawing confirmations were properly executed and recorded.

By contrast, every competing applicant in these two cases failed to register for the drawing system and was treated as having abandoned their application. Their marks didn’t lose out to chance — they lost out to oversight or withdrawal. Had any of them actively participated, our success would have been far from guaranteed.
Many business owners assume that filing a trademark is a one-click task and the rest takes care of itself. That couldn't be further from the truth. Every procedural milestone, especially rare and technical ones like a same-day drawing, is a real test of your IP representative’s expertise.
One Piece of Advice
When selecting a trademark agent, don’t just compare price tags. Choose a partner who watches every deadline, manages every risk, and refuses to let a trademark fall through the cracks. That’s how you actually keep your mark — and your brand — protected.
